Chronic health problems generally require the physician to see you every three to six months. Each case is different and may require more frequent visits.
SCHEDULING PHYSICALS:
Infants and children younger than 5 years of age generally follow a specific schedule for physicals and immunizations. Older children only require a single well visit per year and these are more easily scheduled during the summer months (April through September) because there are more available appointments. School, camp, and sports physicals are all considered to be WELL CHILD CHECKUPS and must be scheduled accordingly. Check with your insurance company regarding your benefits before you make an appointment, as some insurance companies only cover 1 per calender year or 1 every 365 days.
SCHEDULING SICK VISITS:
WEIGHT CHECKS:
As a courtesy to our parents of newborns, the nurse will check their weight but a nurse appointment is required. If your newborn has a weight gain/loss problem you will be required to make an appointment to see the physician.
ADD/ADHD Appointments
New ADD/ADHD evaluations.
Parents and teachers must complete Vanderbuilt forms before appointment can be made.
INSURANCE:
Most insurance companies provide resources with instructions and phone numbers for member services for benefit questions. Please familiarize yourself with your insurance benefits. Please contact your insurer for any questions regarding your coverage.
REFERRALS UNDER MANAGED CARE:
For all insurance plans every aspect of health care is subject to review. Our contract with your insurance require that we serve as the initial provider of essentially all medical care. Referrals to specialists are reserved for cases where either special training or procedures are required to manage your child’s problem.
The decision to use a specialist is as carefully considered as any other medical decision regarding your child’s care. Patients generally need an evaluation in the office prior to a referral. Even though not all insurance plans require an insurance referral most specialist require a doctor to doctor referral.
If we recommend a referral, you may select a specialist from your appropriate insurance list. This referral may still require authorization by the insurance company. As soon as an appointment is made, contact our referral specialist so that the referral can be done. It is imperative that you confirm the specialist is in your insurance network before the appointment. Any follow up appointments and referrals with a specialist are the responsibility of the patient to obtain. Please request your referral at least one week before your appointment to give us enough time to get the referral approved by the doctor and the insurance company if required. When your referral is completed we will fax the referral to the specialists office for you. REFERRALS WILL NOT BE APPROVED ON THE SAME DAY YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT, unless it is for an emergency.
LABORATORY AND X-RAY REPORTS:
Lab and x-ray reports are usually received within 2 to 5 working days. Once we receive the results the physician must review and interpret your lab or x-rays. The nurse will call your results to you. If you have not heard from our office within one week please call us.
MEDICATIONS: are now available to request though MYCHART app.
Generic drugs are acceptable and prescribed unless the standard of care dictates otherwise. You will always have the option of requesting a brand name medication from your pharmacy. Unfortunately, this option may be more expensive under your insurance plan.
Please call your PHARMACY for refills on routine medications. This helps reduce errors, paper work, and our time on the phone. The pharmacy will be notified if the prescription is approved or denied.
ANTIBIOTICS are prescribed for bacterial infections and not for uncomplicated colds and allergies. ANTIBIOTICS ARE USUALLY NOT PRESCRIBED OVER THE PHONE.
CONTROLLED MEDICATIONS (ie Stimulants, Narcotics) are now E-SCRIBED as long as your pharmacy participates. Please allow 24 to 48 hours for refils.
Stimulants: Refill of stimulants, which are sometimes used in management of ADHD, requires that your child be seen every 6 months. Please call at least two days in advance for refills.
Narcotics: Prescriptions are usually prescribed for a few days or weeks at a time for specific conditions. Lost narcotic prescriptions are NOT replaced
